Une plongée dans l’inconscient
Troublant : tel est un qualificatif qu’on peut entendre assez souvent à propos des films d’Atom Egoyan, et The adjuster n’échappe pas à la règle. De Family viewing au Voyage de Felicia en passant par Exotica ou De beaux lendemains, le réalisateur canadien n’a de cesse d’explorer l’inconscient collectif. Ses films relèvent même parfois d’une expérience particulière pour le spectateur. Inspiré par un incendie qui a eu lieu au domicile de ses parents, The adjuster fut présenté à la Quinzaine des réalisateurs du Festival de Cannes, qui compte également cette année-là The Indian Runner, de Sean Penn, et Toto le héros, de Jaco Van Dormael, qui obtint la Caméra d’or.
