On avait quitté Marco Berger en 2020 avec un film lumineux et relativement léger, Le colocataire. Avec Le prédateur, le réalisateur argentin revient sur des thématiques plus sombres, ambiguës. Sa filmographie est ainsi tiraillée entre ces deux pôles, et ce dès ses premiers films. Il alterne ainsi des long-métrages où la sexualité, et en particulier l’homosexualité, qui fait partie intégrante de son univers, est abordée de façon positive et négative, attirante et dangereuse. Pour ce film, sélectionné au Festival Chéries-chéris 2021, et qui reste inédit, Berger s’entoure d’acteurs très jeunes comme Lautaro Rodriguez, qui était à l’affiche de Mon meilleur ami en 2019, mais aussi de figures familières.
