A very british scam
L’anecdote qui a inspiré The Duke est assez rocambolesque. En 1961, Kempton Bunton, un retraité britannique, a été jugé pour avoir volé un célèbre tableau de Francisco Goya à la National Gallery. Le Portrait du duc de Wellington était exposé depuis peu dans le célèbre musée londonien quand on a appris le vol, et la police a suspecté des criminels en bande organisée. Les motivations de Bunton étaient pourtant beaucoup moins malveillantes, contrairement d’ailleurs au cliché sur les vols d’œuvres d’art qui persistent dans la culture populaire. Ainsi en 1962, une scène de James Bond 007 contre Dr No vient rappeler cette affaire en un clin d’œil, rendant un malfaiteur responsable du vol. L’épisode a été quelques fois évoqué, notamment à la BBC, et c’est ici Roger Michell, à qui l’on doit Week-end royal, qui se charge de la mise en scène du film, présenté hors compétition au Festival de Venise, et dont l’interprète princ
