On the road again (again…)
Récipiendaire du Grand prix au Festival de Cannes en 1973, L‘épouvantail est le film pour lequel le nom de Jerry Schatzberg est connu aujourd’hui. Si certains cinéphiles ont tellement d’admiration envers le cinéaste c’est pour son regard désenchanté sur une Amérique jusqu’alors mythifiée. C’est que cet ancien photographe de mode arrive à une époque où le cinéma américain est en plein renouveau. Ses deux premiers films imposent déjà une patte bien à lui : en particulier, Panique à Needle Park dénote par son ton désabusé sur l’univers new-yorkais des petits trafiquants de drogue. Il y impose un petit nouveau, un certain Al Pacino qu’il reprend dans L’épouvantail, film qui va définitivement faire de lui un acteur sur qui compter.
