Superproduction commandée à Sergei M. EISENSTEIN pour le dixième anniversaire de la révolution bolchévique et film expérimental à l'impact visuel parfois ébouriffant, "Octobre" est un paradoxe vivant. En effet en tant que film de propagande, il manqua complètement son objectif. Il ne plut ni aux masses qui ne comprirent pas les métaphores visuelles du film, ni au régime qui était en train de tomber aux mains de Staline. Même si Sergei M. EISENSTEIN effaça la figure de Léon Trotsky dans un mouvement de falsification de l'histoire qui toucha tous les supports visuels prouvant son rôle dans la Révolution d'octobre, son film ne correspondait plus aux attentes d'un dictateur qui désirait édifier un culte à sa gloire et écraser toute création artistique personnelle (donc potentiellement
