Sur le plan strictement cinématographique, "Chouchou" est franchement mauvais, entre son scénario torché à la va-vite, ses personnages secondaires parfois caricaturaux au possible, sa mise en scène approximative, sa photographie très banale. Bref tout cela forme un emballage grossier au milieu duquel se trouve tout de même une petite perle: Chouchou lui-même. Le film n'existe en effet que par la performance de son acteur principal, Gad ELMALEH qui est parvenu à faire connaître à un public plus large que celui de ses one-man-show son personnage attachant et extravagant de travesti maghrébin au langage aussi approximatif qu'imagé. Chouchou est un univers à lui tout seul que son interprète parvient à faire exister "de la tête aux pieds" et qui s'avère à la fois très drôle, plein de
