Depuis sa naissance, il avait une tache de vin au niveau du menton. Complexé, il pensait que les gens le rejetaient à cause de cette imperfection physique. Il décida d’être jardinier. Il ne travaillait pas très loin d'un péristyle qu'il admirait depuis toujours. Un homme qui portait un kilt s'avança et lui offrit une grosse poignée de billets. Le jardinier fut gêné de cette largesse. Peut-être avait-il remarqué ses vêtements troués ? Il voulut lui redonner son argent, mais il disparut rapidement. Lui qui rêvait d'acquérir un îlot pour sa retraite. Il s'agenouilla et murmura une oraison pour remercier ce bienfaiteur.
