Today I walked by the river and saw a man and boy working in the cornfield at the water's edge. They had taken their shirts off and their skin was beautiful and pale, like nacre, in the sunlight. Their brown throats and arms, grafted to their pearly bodies, were surprising.
Aujourd’hui je me suis baladé près de la rivière, j’ai vu un homme et un garçon qui travaillaient dans le champ de blé au bord de l’eau. Ils avaient enlevé leurs chemises, leurs peaux, belles et pâles, qui luisaient comme de la nacre sous les rayons du soleil. Leurs gorges et bras brunis, greffés à leurs corps de nacre, étaient surprenant.
I spoke to them shyly, asking where I could bathe. The man answered me. I saw that he had something blue and green tattooed on his arm. He said,
