One-man Fight
When the enemy lives within
The odds of winning get mighty thin
Ain't so easy not to give in
Even if walking away feels like a sin
I could've called somebody for help
But I never found the courage to yelp
That cancer of the soul stole my hope
Left me hanging at the end of my rope
A better one, a sturdier branch, meant end of the dance
Let’s just say some battles are won by a second chance
I ain’t that strong, I fell my share
By all accounts I paid my fare
Next time I’ll cross that river
I won't need no silver
With the weight of the world bearing down
I kept fighting back, I held my own
Never stopped, never bled out
Not even riddled with doubt
Kept getting stronger pushing back my demons
Held my ground against their reasons
But nothing lasts, not me, not their fever
One day or another I’ll see the undertaker
Lost many years with no refund
Almost put me under the ground
Yet, I am still standing
Barely, so I ain’t bragging
I ain’t that strong, I fell my share
By all accounts I paid my fare
Next time I’ll cross that river
I won't need no silver
I’ve known true weakness, true solitude
Relied on eagerness, on fortitude
Missed my step, choked on it
Crawled my way back from it
I ain’t that strong, I fell my share
By all accounts I paid my fare
There’s less death in a one-man fight
Doesn't mean the wounds are light
There’s less death in a one-man fight
Maybe even none if you’re strong enough to write
