Christian Laborie est né en 1948 dans le Nord. Après des études d'histoire-géographie, il a enseigné dans le Pas-de-Calais pendant six ans, puis s'est installé dans le Gard en 1978.
Cévenol d'adoption et de cœur, il vit depuis cette date entre Alès et Anduze, où il écrit depuis 1995 : L'Arbre à palabres, Prix Découverte France Telecom 2001 ; Le Chemin des larmes, Prix Mémoire d'Oc 2004 ; Les Sarments de la colère, Prix Lucien Gachon 2011.
Auteur reconnu et incontournable du roman populaire, il est l'auteur de nombreuses sagas dont Les Rives Blanches, Prix de l'Académie cévenole Le Cabri d'Or 2013.
Aimant mêler son goût pour l'histoire et pour la société des XIXe et XXe siècles à sa façon de ressentir les Cévennes, il s'efforce à travers ses romans de faire découvrir à ses lecteurs ce qui fait l'authenticité de cette région.
A few words about the author :
Christian Laborie was born in 1948 in the North. After studying history and geography, he taught in the Pas-de-Calais region for six years, then moved to the Gard region in 1978.
A Cevenol by adoption and by heart, he has lived since then between Alès and Anduze, where he has been writing since 1995: L'Arbre à palabres, Prix Découverte France Telecom 2001; Le Chemin des larmes, Prix Mémoire d'Oc 2004; Les Sarments de la colère, Prix Lucien Gachon 2011.
Recognized and unavoidable author of the popular novel, he is the author of many sagas including Les Rives Blanches, Prix de l'Académie cévenole Le Cabri d'Or 2013.
Loving to combine his taste for history and society of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to his way of feeling the Cevennes, he strives through his novels to help readers discover what makes the authenticity of this region.

" Mon seul héritage, aime répéter Sarah, c'est mon nom. Je ferai donc tout pour qu'il ne se perde pas dans l'oubli. " Ainsi, Sarah Goldberg part sur les traces de sa mère Ana, qui, fuyant les rafles, fut recueillie, enfant, dans un village cévenol. Rapidement Sarah comprend que certains survivants de l'époque connaissent la vérité sur Ana.
Mais quelle vérité ?
Il a suffi d'une lettre pour que la vie de Sarah Goldberg bascule. La voici héritière d'une maison dans les Cévennes, où pourtant elle n'a aucune attache. Serait-ce une erreur ? Il y a tant d'ombres dans la vie de Sarah... Sa mère, Ana, morte trop tôt, ne s'est guère confiée sur son passé. Quittant ses missions diplomatiques, Lausanne et son compagnon, Sarah découvre la maison, prête à la revendre au plus tôt. Mais rapidement les lieux livrent leurs secrets : une inscription, " Ne cherchez pas à savoir " ; une trappe donnant accès à une cache. Et, derrière une pierre descellée, un cahier d'écolier : le journal d'Ana.
Défilent alors sous les yeux de Sarah les souffrances et les espoirs de la vie d'errance de sa mère et des siens, depuis la fin des années 1920 jusqu'aux rafles de 1943...

But quickly the place delivers its secrets: an inscription, "Do not seek to know"; a trap door giving access to a hiding place. And, behind an unsealed stone, a school notebook: Ana's diary.
Sarah's eyes then see the sufferings and hopes of the wandering life of her mother and her family, from the end of the 1920s to the 1943 round-ups...

Je tiens à remercier les éditions Presses de la cité et le site Netgalley de m'avoir permis de lire ce livre.
Étant un grand fan de cet auteur il me fallait lire ce livre. J'adore sa plume si addictive.
On y retrouve Sarah Goldberg qui le jour où elle reçoit une lettre tout bascule. Elle va se retrouvée à hériter d'une maison dans les Cévennes. Y t'il erreur sur la personne? Elle va s'apercevoir que sa mère étant morte tôt, elle ne savait presque rien sur son passé. Sarah va quitter la Suisse, son petit ami pour ce rendre sur place et elle à déjà en tête de revendre la maison une fois les travaux de remise en état effectués. Sauf qu'une fois la haut elle tombe sur un mot inscrit au mur : "Ne cherchez pas à savoir" et va découvrir une trappe menant à la cave de la maison. Elle va trouver une sorte de carnet qui appartenait à sa mère Ana. EN le lisant elle va en apprendre plus sur sa mère dans les années 1920 jusqu'aux rafles de 1943;
J'ai accroché de suite à l'histoire si captivante, émouvante à certains passages, remplie de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages très attachants.

I would like to thank Presses de la cité and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book.
Being a big fan of this author, I had to read this book. I love his addictive writing.
We can find Sarah Goldberg in it, who the day she receives a letter all over the place. She will find herself inheriting a house in the Cévennes. Is there a mistake about the person? She will realize that her mother died early, so she knew almost nothing about her past. Sarah is going to leave Switzerland, her boyfriend to go there and she already has in mind to sell the house once the restoration work is done. Except that once upstairs she comes across a word written on the wall: "Don't find out" and goes to discover a trap door leading to the basement of the house. She will find a kind of notebook that belonged to her mother Ana. Reading it she will learn more about her mother in the 1920s until the 1943 roundups;
I hooked right away on the story so captivating, moving at certain passages, full of suspense and twists and turns with very endearing characters.
