Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway novels take for their inspiration Elly's husband, who gave up a city job to train as an archaeologist, and her aunt who lives on the Norfolk coast and who filled her niece's head with the myths and legends of that area. Elly has two children and lives near Brighton. Though not her first novel, The Crossing Places is her first crime novel.

Cet écrivain a vécu et enseigné dans le même collège que Claire, qui, fascinée par ce personnage qui hante encore les murs de l'établissement, travaille à l'écriture de sa biographie. Mais un jour, Ella, sa collègue et amie est retrouvée morte. À côté de son corps, une citation de " L'Inconnu "...
La littérature et la vraie vie entrent alors en collision, et Claire devient suspecte aux yeux
de la police. Et le mystère s'épaissit lorsqu'elle ouvre son journal intime, ce journal dans
lequel elle écrit chaque jour, et découvre une écriture qui n'est pas la sienne : " Bonjour, Claire. Tu ne me connais pas. " L'Inconnu, lui, connaît Claire, jusqu'à ses moindres secrets, et il n'est visiblement pas étranger aux meurtres qui vont se succéder au sein même du collège,

Je tiens particulièrement à remercier les éditions Hugo thiller et le site Netgalley de m'avoir permis de lire ce livre qui est le premier de la série : "Harbinder Kaur".
On y retrouve la professeur Claire Cassidy qui tous les ans donne un cours de littérature gothique. "L'inconnu" de R.M Holland. L'écrivain à enseigné sur le collège et fascinée par ce personnage, Claire se lance dans l'écriture de sa biographie. Jusqu'au jour où sa collègue et amie Ella est retrouvée morte. Et à côté du corps de son amie une citation du fameux livre : "L'Inconnu".
Sauf que Claire devient la suspecte idéale aux yeux de la police. Quand elle va ouvrir son journal intime elle va tomber sur une écriture qu'elle ne connaît pas. Il semblerait que ce soit ce fameux inconnu qui est responsable de ces meurtres au sein du collège. Claire va t'elle réussir à déjouer les plans de ce fameux inconnu?
J'ai accroché de suite à l'histoire si prenante, addictive, captivante, remplie de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages très attachants. Hâte de lire la suite.

I particularly want to thank the Hugo Thiller editions and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book which is the first of the series: "Harbinder Kaur".
It features Professor Claire Cassidy who every year gives a course in Gothic literature. "The unknown" by R.M Holland. The writer taught about the college and fascinated by this character, Claire starts writing her biography. Until the day her colleague and friend Ella is found dead. And next to her friend's body is a quote from the famous book: "The Unknown".
Except that Claire becomes the ideal suspect in the eyes of the police. When she opens her diary she will come across a writing she doesn't know. It seems that it is this famous unknown person who is responsible for the murders in the college. Is Claire going to succeed in thwarting the plans of this famous stranger?
I immediately got hooked on the story which is so gripping, addictive, captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns with very endearing characters. Can't wait to read the book two.
