A few words about the author :
Born in Manchester but currently living in Hertfordshire, Lesley's career has included law and charity fundraising. She is now devoting her time to her own writing and to teaching creative writing to others. In addition to selling almost 90 short stories to the women's magazine market, Lesley has won the Festival of Romance's New Talent Award and the Romantic Novelists' Association's Elizabeth Goudge Cup.

Je tiens à remercier les éditions Aria et le site Netgalley de m'avoir permis de lire ce livre.
J'ai de suite été attiré par la couverture de ce livre où l'on y voit les jumeaux Lily et Artie.
L'histoire se déroule à Londres en 1910 où Lily qui à dix ans à sa grand-mère qui est malade, elle est lavandière dans des bas quartiers de Bermondsey. Elle compte bien l'aider au maximum et à bien garder secret sa maladie. Quant à Artie son jumeau il garde secret aussi tout ça sauf que leur grand-mère ne va pas mieux et ils n'y pourront rien à son sort.
Ils vont finir par se retrouver en foyer de travail où en orphelinat. Un homme se propose à prendre Artie chez lui pour l'éduquer. Il ne veux pas de Lily, les jumeaux vont tout perdre et vivre chacun de leur côté.
Se retrouveront ils un jour ?
Un livre lu d'une traite tellement j'ai accroché à l'histoire si prenante, émouvante à certains passages, captivante, addictive, remplie de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages très attachants. J'adore la plume de l'auteure.

I was immediately attracted by the cover of this book where we see the twins Lily and Artie.
The story takes place in London in 1910 where Lily, who is ten years old, has to look after her grandmother who is ill, she is a washerwoman in the lower districts of Bermondsey. She is a washerwoman in the slums of Bermondsey. She wants to help her as much as possible and keep her illness a secret. As for Artie, her twin, he also keeps all this a secret, except that their grandmother is not getting better and there is nothing they can do about it.
They will end up in a workhouse or an orphanage. A man offers to take Artie in to educate him. He doesn't want Lily, so the twins will lose everything and go their separate ways.
Will they ever find each other again?
A book read in one sitting, so much so that I was hooked on the story, so gripping, so moving in certain passages, so captivating, so addictive, so full of suspense and twists and turns with very endearing characters. I love the author's writing.
