Boogeyman
Boogeyman
Deep in the belly of the earth
Is supposed to be the hideout of a beast
Living in the darkness beneath
who could engulf us all in a mist.
Or so goes the legend,
But the monster is long gone
He had no needs to stay and pretend.
Not after human kind was born
We feared the claws, the fangs, the night,
But mirrors tell a darker tale.
No ancient beast, no cursed rite —
Man’s own evil tips the scale.
We’re the hunger, we’re the flame,
The god of ruin, the beast unnamed.
What crawls in hell has no claim,
Human kind’s worse when left untamed.
See, he was aiming for ultimate destruction,
But seeing men so angry
He knew WE will bring armagedon
And all he had to do was petty:
He invented for us religion.
Making sure our violence will grow
As it is the human condition
To destroy what we don’t know
We feared the claws, the fangs, the night,
But mirrors tell a darker tale.
No ancient beast, no cursed rite —
Man’s own evil tips the scale.
We’re the hunger, we’re the flame,
The god of ruin, the beast unnamed.
What crawls in hell has no claim,
Human kind’s worse when left untamed.
