High literature sometimes seems a saintly pursuit, and is associated with such concepts as inspiration and rapture. In spite of this, a significant part of the work – at least in the case of a novel – is grunt work. When writing, we spend most of our time incessantly researching online, fishing about amongst the news, gathering essential information.
