– Attention… un serpent !
Une détonation retentit dans l’atmosphère humide de la jungle, déclenchant un feu bariolé d’oiseaux multicolores, et l’instant d’après, Mick tomba foudroyé sur le sol. Un silence étrange s’abattit alors sur la jungle, tandis que l’affreux reptile qui nous avait menacé disparaissait parmi les lianes, ignorant totalement notre geste d’agression. Nous n’eûmes pas besoin d’examiner la dépouille de notre infortuné compagnon. Mick était bien mort. La balle lui avait éclaté le front.
