Framework 1: The STOP Method
The first way of dealing with emotional hijacks is controlling your thoughts and therefore taking control of your emotions. The STOP method is an easy-to-understand and implements a technique that does just that.
S – Stop: Remember that you are about to experience an emotional response, and now consciously avoid it. This is why it is so important to learn how to recognize that you are becoming hijacked and must stop. This can be quite tasking, nevertheless, it becomes quite easy to decipher once it is done severally.
T – Take a breath: Deep and calm breath for a few moments. This might only take a few seconds, but it can help you focus on what is at hand and not be distracted by the other things that you trust to get done.
