TECH Reviews: Lavanda Lune ANC Headphones

As a freelance writer, it is not rare to find me inside a coffee shop working on an article. I love the convenience of being in a space where I can focus on my writing and conveniently grab coffee or snack without having to wash dishes, but I also understand that it is not a perfect place to do work. Coffee shops can often be crowded with dozens of conversations going on at the same time and even if the shop is mostly empty, it can be difficult to escape the coffee shop tunes that play over the speakers — the solution, headphones!

I do not often buy things (I am a fan of living a minimalist lifestyle), but headphones and earbuds are the one purchase that I consistently make. About every two months, I purchase new headphones or earbuds. Usually, I buy lower-end headphones because I tend to either lose my equipment or to wear them out quickly and I am not confident enough to purchase more expensive audio equipment. I love listening to music and podcasts, but have always lamented not being able to do to so with a great pair of earbuds. That is why I am thankful to Lavanda for giving me a sample pair of their Lavanda Lune ANC earbuds to review.

I have read many things about the active noise-canceling earbud hype, but before using the Lavanda Lune ANC earbuds I have never used such a type of audio equipment. As such, the perspective of this review is not someone who knows a lot about noise-canceling earbuds, but instead from someone who often needs to work in a noisy environment and needs a solution to this problem.

The first thing I noticed after opening the Lune ANC earbuds out of the box is that they are sleek and cool. I have never been a fan of the look of Apple's AirPods. From their weird shape to their boring and sterile white color, to me, they are "iconically" bland. However, I really like the fact that the Lune earbuds are a cool black color.

Besides the black color of the earbuds, the next thing I appreciated was the neat little carrying case the earbuds came in. Once I started during the earbuds on a regular basis, the case was small enough to comfortably fit in the pockets of my pants without causing bulky lines. Of course, the coolest part of the case is that they keep the earbuds charged. According to Lavanda, the charging case can keep the earbuds charged for up to 45 hours! That description is a bit of a misrepresentation, in fact, the charging case can charge the earbuds a total of five times and each full charge can charge the earbuds up to nine hours.

In general, I never had any issues with the battery life of the earbuds. Usually, I have them in my ears for most of the day and charge them at night. When I am not wearing them I store them in the charging case, and that tends to be enough to keep the earbuds charged. Another plus is that the charging case can charge the earbuds very quickly. The few times I have gotten a low-battery notification from the earbuds, it has taken less than 30 minutes to get the earbuds charged up again.

Another benefit of the earbuds is that they are comfortable to wear. In the box, there is a set of little gummy tips that you can switch to better fit your ear's size. At first, I was scared that the earbuds would fall out of my ears as I walked through the city or up and downstairs, but the Lune earbuds are great at staying in place, no matter how much you move.

So, how do the earbuds actually perform? As I have said before, I have never owned noise-canceling earbuds before, so I cannot compare these earbuds to other similar products, but as far as the product themselves, the Lavanda Lune ANC earbud's sound output is great. Normally, I tend to blast my headphones at full volume, but one of the great things about these earbuds is that you do not need to listen to music at high volume in order to enjoy a crisp sound. I am sure my ears are thankful for this, and I will appreciate this more when I am older and do not need a hearing aid.

As far as the noise-canceling feature of the earbuds, I will admit that it can be a bit dangerous to have the noise-canceling feature on while crossing the street. It is great that when you put the earbuds on all noise gets canceled, but it can also be dangerous! I do highly recommend them to block out the noisy roommates! Since I got the Lune earbuds, I have not had to hear my neighbor's dog! The coolest part about the noise-canceling feature is that you can turn it on and off. So, if you do want to walk down the street or have a more natural music-listening experience, this is an option too.

I have been using the Lune ANC earbuds for three weeks and at this time, the only issue I have had with them is that from time to time the pairing feature will fail.  This, however, is only a minor complaint, as the software in the earbuds will normally repair the earbud right away. As I mentioned before, I received a review copy of the Lune ANC earbuds, but I would gladly purchase them as well. Currently, the earbuds are up on kickstarted for only 79 USD. Compared to other high-end noise-canceling earbuds that is a great price!
