A sense of liberation

At last. That’s the phrase that springs to mind when something happens that you’ve been wanting to resolve for a while, but for some reason – whether personal or external – you just can’t bring it to a close.

When it’s something external, the feeling of being overwhelmed can be awful. That endless wait that drives you to despair because you’re not getting that moment or that reaction you so desperately need. You’re constantly thinking: When will it happen?, When will this suffering end?. And no matter how much time passes, the moment never comes.

But when it’s something that depends on you… That’s when, my friend, that’s when it can become a huge burden, and you don’t see it coming until it’s right on top of you. And it weighs heavily… It weighs as heavily as if Sisyphus were to hand over his punishment to you, with no intention of taking it back until you take action on the matter. But that’s not the worst of it; the worst thing is that there may be people you care about involved in the situation. Because they, too, might end up being harmed when you take the necessary steps. And one more thing… the steps you take won’t be the wisest, because, inevitably, by the time you take them, you’ll be acting rashly and feeling cornered.

But when that long journey finally reaches its end and you sit down to reflect, you feel that sense of freedom – with fewer chains than you’ve borne until now, and a lighter burden on your shoulders. It’s marvellous.
