La société maybelline née en 1915 à New York:
Son fondateur, Tom Lyle William, chimiste, s'inspira pour lui donner un nom celui de sa soeur Mabel:Maybell laboratoiries, puis Maybelline en 1923.Son premier produit et un des premiers mascara, fabriquer à base de vaseline et de poussière de charbon, qu'il appella lash-brown-ine.la marque demeurera la grande spécialiste des produits de maquillage pour les yeux ,avant d'élargir sa gamme en 1970.
Gemey fut crée en 1923:
La marque était connue pour son fond de teint compact Pancake. C'est Gemey qui crée le premier fond de teint fluide en tube en 1954 puis la premiére poudre compacte en 1956 dernière touche .En 1967 Maybelline est vendue
