UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week: Humans First, AI Second

Panodyssey plays its part with the AI Notice, already used by over a hundred certified authors, and invites you to the Panodyssey Forum on 30 October.

From 24 to 31 October, UNESCO celebrates Global Media and Information Literacy Week. This year’s theme is “We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People.”

Policymakers, educators, researchers, journalists, young people, content creators, regulators and civil society organisations are taking part around the world. The message is simple: media and information literacy is a shared responsibility, and no single sector can carry it alone.

As a member of the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance (MIL Alliance), Panodyssey is proud to play its part.

The written word in the age of AI

Generative AI is changing how texts are produced, how they circulate and why we trust them. Readers meet AI-generated content every day, often with no sign of where it comes from. Authors see their work collected and reused by AI systems, often without ever being asked.

Media and information literacy must therefore cover new questions:

  1. Who wrote this text, and was AI involved?
  2. Did the author agree to their work being used to train or feed an AI system?
  3. How can creators, educators and journalists stay visible on the web, in search engines (SEO) as well as in AI answers (GEO), while protecting their content, their rights and their signatures?

Panodyssey: humans first, AI second

Panodyssey was launched in 2019 around a manifesto, Reconciling the Digital World with Ethics. Seven years ago, it became the first truly ethical social network: certified authors, no anonymity, no advertising, no exploitation of data. At Panodyssey, at every level, it is humans first and AI second.

In spring 2026, Panodyssey launched the AI Notice, followed by version 2.1 in September 2026. It answers a need expressed by authors: to stop being pillaged by online thieves.

The Notice is reserved for certified authors, that is, authors who have taken a step towards transparency and responsibility in publishing their texts and visuals online. It speaks to two audiences.

To readers, first. The author explains how they use AI tools to translate, format, proofread or shape their writing. They name the tools and their versions, and say whether they are free or paid.

To AI systems and their bots, second. Publication by publication, the author sets their conditions: all AIs are allowed, none is, or only some are, and only in return for payment. This choice is dated, recorded and sent as machine-readable signals, which AI bots must read and respect. An AI that does not respect the law exposes itself to copyright infringement claims.

More than a hundred authors in France, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands have already adopted the Notice.

Transparency that is declared, not guessed

This is the whole difference. The Notice’s transparency is a responsible, certified act by the author themselves. It is not the output of an AI tool scanning a text to guess whether a machine wrote it, with results that are often unreliable.

For media and information literacy, this is a concrete change. Readers know how a text was written, and with which tools. They learn to ask the right questions about every piece of content. AI systems, for their part, know what they are allowed to do, and what they are not.

The Notice also answers the question of visibility: a certified author remains visible and identifiable, and their signature, rights and conditions of use stay attached to their text.

The spirit will be conversation, questions and answers. Authors, publishers, journalists, teachers, students, associations, institutions: everyone is welcome.

📩 To receive your invitation, write to info@panodyssey.com with “Panodyssey Forum” as the subject.

An invitation

During Global Media and Information Literacy Week, we invite authors, readers, educators and partners to:

  1. Discover the AI Notice on Panodyssey publications (what authors tell their readers, and what they require of AI systems) and come and discuss it at the Panodyssey Forum on 30 October.
  2. Discuss, with students or colleagues, where online content comes from, the place of AI in writing, and respect for authors’ rights.
  3. Share how you play a part in media and information literacy, using #GlobalMILWeek and #WeAllPlayAPart.

We also encourage you to follow the Week’s events around the world: Nairobi (Digital Content Creators and Media and Information Literacy, 26–27 October), Abuja (“Africa Plays a Part”, 28–29 October), Montreal, New Delhi and many more.

Media and information literacy for the people starts with respect for the people who write. That is the part Panodyssey intends to play.
