Have you ever stopped to think about just how many heartbeats you’ll have in your lifetime? Growing up, I recall hearing that the average person is allotted around 3 billion heartbeats before their time is up. This “predetermined heartbeat” theory always fascinated me — if our heart rates were slowed down just a bit, could we prolong our lives? As someone who enjoys staying active into their later years, I decided to dig deeper into the research on this topic. What I found was pretty intriguing.

According to studies that have examined population-level data, humans generally have a resting heart rate of 60–100 beats per minute.
Combine that with an average lifespan of around 70–80 years, and you get about 2–3 billion heartbeats over a lifetime. Of course, this can vary a lot from person to person based on factors like genetics, lifestyle
