Summary :

When vigilante citizens sow terror in a small American town... Murders, conspiracies and twisted blows: in Promise Falls, we don't mess with crime!
Usually so peaceful, the small town of Promise Falls is in turmoil. At first, a bewildered guy arrives in Inspector Duckworth's office claiming to have been kidnapped and beaten up. A tattoo on his back accuses him of being a murderer.
And then there is the Jeremy Pilford case. This arrogant rich kid, suspected of having run over a young girl, has just hired private detective Cal Weaver to ensure his safety. Acquitted in court for irresponsibility, the teenager finds himself lynched in the media and harassed by a pack of anonymous people.

Who are these good righters of wrongs, these social justice warriors gathered on social networks, determined to make the supposed criminals pay? What are their intentions? And are they always well-informed?

While the city looks like a shooting range, Duckworth and Weaver won't be too much of a pair to fight this modern-day witch hunt?

My review :

I would like to thank Belfond Editions and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book.

In this fourth book in the Promise Falls series, citizens who think they are vigilantes are causing chaos in a small town. It all begins when a man arrives at Inspector Duckworth's office certifying that he has been beaten and kidnapped with a tattoo on his back that makes him look like a murderer. And then there's the case of Jeremy Pilford accused of running over a young girl who uses a private investigator to ensure her safety. He is then acquitted in court as an irresponsible person and he is harassed.

A book that I loved to read with a story that was so gripping, captivating, addictive, full of suspense and twists and turns with characters that are as endearing as ever. I love the author's writing.
